East to West for Cardiac Arrest
Donation protected
This July, my Dad and I will be cycling 420 miles in tandem across the UK for the British Heart Foundation ❤️
Last summer, my dad, Stewart, and my sister, Amelia, cycled the end to end route on the famous Tony the Tandem. Since then, our lives have changed dramatically. On Thursday 8th December, Dad had a sudden cardiac arrest. His heart stopped for 20mins. With incredible CPR at his karate class and two shocks from the paramedics, Dad was resuscitated and given another shot at life. ICU, induced coma and being told he may not wake and if he did then highly likely a degree of brain damage, was beyond devastating. Not to mention the traumatic month in hospital with complications and a ruptured aneurysm, we all prepared ourselves for a long recovery journey to come.
To add to the amazement of being a part of the 8% of sufferers who survive a cardiac arrest, Dad returned back to work within a month and has made an incredible recovery. As a result, Tony the Tandem is making a return for another ride across the country!
On 26th July, we will kick off from Great Yarmouth and end in St David’s on 3rd August, documenting our adventure along the way ❤️
