Help Bria with bilateral mastectomy recovery
Donation protected
As many of you know by now, our hilarious, and ever radiant friend Bria is preparing for an upcoming surgery and could use a helping hand.
In April Bria underwent genetic screening and learned she is BRCA1 positive. This genetic mutation raises the chances of developing breast and ovarian cancer a significant amount.
Her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at 40 and ultimately died at age 57 and her aunt (her mother’s sister) just passed away of endometrial cancer last August. Both were BRCA1 positive as well.
As scary as this all is, she’s luckily been given a chance to get ahead of it! Considering family history, she has been advised that it’s in her best interest to do a bilateral mastectomy, which she will do on September 13th.
The recovery time for this surgery is 6 weeks, in which she won’t be able to work as a hairstylist or lift anything over 10lbs (which will be incredibly difficult with a toddler). Cooking, cleaning, childcare and other daily necessities will all have to be phoned in.
While she is deeply and generously supported behind the scenes by her family, friends and her boss, Jack at Marin Hair Co., there are expenses for this surgery and recovery, on top of being out of work for 6 weeks, that will be incredibly difficult to cover.
She spends her days making us feel beautiful, now it’s our turn to help our girl out. Let’s make sure she can heal in peace and comfort, (without crushing financial strain) so she can get back to doing what she does best!
