Help Erin Kick Cancer's Ass

About a month ago Erin found a lump in her breast. The biopsy confirmed what her gut already knew, which was that the lump was breast cancer. Erin’s mom died from ovarian cancer 15 years ago (when Erin was 25), her grandmother had breast cancer 50 years ago, and the little information about her great- grandmother was that she had died on the operating table from some type of surgery involving her ovaries. This is a cancer that is genetic, and even though Erin has done her best to try to prevent it through mental health work and diet, the cancer came anyway. WAY earlier than expected. Erin is 40 years old.
Erin is a single woman self employed as a therapist who works with kids, families, and adults, specializing in adoption and trauma with the help of dogs, horses, yoga, and nature. She loves helping others and has spent her adulthood working to help people heal from trauma and become more empowered. After years in mental health organizations and non-profits, Erin started her own business to follow her dreams and work the way she believes in (outside, in nature and NOT in a building) and has been very successful and able to build a thriving practice. While this is great, it also means that she does not have the benefits of working for a company. She pays her own health insurance with a high deductible, and does not get paid time off. Unfortunately, Erin’s breast cancer is called triple positive invasive ductal carcinoma (and she has the BRCA breast cancer gene), which means she will need a double mastectomy and chemotherapy to cure it. This process will take 4-6 months and begins on 9/22/20.
During this time Erin will not be able to work more than a few hours/week (even though she would probably like to). Not only will she lose her breasts and her hair, but she will also lose her income and have to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket for her care. This loss of income, and increased expenses is devastating. Cancer is NOT cheap, and combined with her loss of income she will struggle to pay her bills, mortgage, and buy the nutritious food needed to fight this horrible disease.
If you know Erin, the one thing she will NOT lose is her spirit. Erin has been an inspiration to many people throughout the years, and continues to bring joy and hope to people on a daily basis. The hope is that we can all come together to bring her some hope while she grieves the loss of the life she once knew without having to struggle with the devastating impact of her loss of income, as well. Erin will be sharing her story on social media and a blog, so you are welcome to join her on her journey if you haven’t already.
