Hi y'all! My name is Mary, and I would like to tell a short story of a friend of mine who could use some assistance at this time. Alicia is 39 years old she is a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a boss, and a good friend. She has always been there to assist others the best she can through guidance, caring, being there, and action.
Now she has been diagnosed with leukemia with her lab numbers doubling from Monday to Wednesday. She has insurance and was scheduled for Moffitt, but they would not take her because they did not take her insurance. Her Md contacted the Mayo clinic they told her to come up and scheduled a day of tests and getting ready for treatment. She and family drove the 7 hours to the Mayo clinic and went for registration where they were told they needed to pay $350,000+ up front. Mayo clinic was kind enough to decrease the upfront money to $130,000+ because they didn't take her insurance, and all appointments were put on hold until the monies were guaranteed. Our corporate staff helped by up grading her insurance, but this did not work for the Mayo clinic. Fortunately, with the change in insurance Moffitt has said they will begin her assessment and treatment but there continue to be high upfront costs.
So now my friend, Alicia who is young with a preteen son, a loving husband, a loving father who she helps as needed, and many caring and supporting friends, is facing a 3-to-6-month life expectancy without treatment. We are raising funds to assist with offsetting these upfront costs.
