Kam's Top Surgery

Hello! My name is Kam and I'm a 25 year old transmasc gender nonconforming individual (he/him) living in Los Angeles. My goal is to be able to fund my top surgery before the end of the year (Sept-Dec).

About My Gender

I have known I did not identify with my gender assigned at birth from a young age and tried to be myself as much as was allowed. I fully started social transitioning a few years ago and have finally been able to get access to GAHT (gender-affirming hormone therapy, also out-of-pocket treatment).

I have experienced a bit of dysphoria around my body--specifically my chest--and it has only heightened with increased idle time due to the pandemic. Binding is uncomfortable and can damage skin and tissues in the long run. My chest literally gets in my way and keeps me from feeling comfortable in what I wear. Being able to feel right in my body would give me room to focus more on my career and health goals.

Why I'm Asking For Help

My current savings are meager due to starting from scratch after leaving an abusive home environment. And due to difficulty finding work I can perform, along with fluctuating unemployment, I have been unable to procure health insurance. Even with insurance, coverage approval can be difficult to get. I have found a trusted surgeon with great reviews who also works hard to accommodate his patients. Because of the level of care and results he provides, his prices are a little steeper. The cost is for the price of surgery and does not include travel costs.

I will be continuing my search for stable, accommodating work and saving to pay out-of-pocket with what I have plus a loan, but any help from the community will be so greatly appreciated.
