Save The Bees - Canmore Mod-Quad!

Donation protected
IN 2015, North America experienced a dramatic decline in honeybee population due to Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). A combination of pesticides, herbicide use, agri-corp land abuse, climate change, diseases, years of human caused stresses among other factors added up to disaster. This is to say nothing of the 1000s of other bee species currently being affected by devasting human impacts.

With no end in sight to the collapse of colonies, we created Eco Not Ego International to promote awareness of this environmental issue. The first initiative under the ENE banner is Project Doublebee, which is targeted at doubling the world bee population to pre-industrial revolution levels. Of course, this is an audacious goal, but one we are confident is achievable if humanity is made more aware of the plight and importance of the bee.

Before we go further, let usintroduce ourselves: our names our Spencer Raymond Madden and Josie Ganos. We are two friends in our mid-twenties with a lust of life and a deep love of the mountains. On many of our hikes, we discussed being fed up with humanity's continued abuse of bees, nature and our planet. We complained for a long time about the conditions of our planet and finally decided to create a company in order to have the ability to create lasting change for bees and the environment.

Best friends who want to change the world!

We are requesting donations for the Save the Bees Canmore Mod-Quad. The Canmore Quad is an objective that has a person hike / run four famous peaks in the Bow Valley (near Canmore) in 24 hours while biking / running across town. First is Grotto Mountain, then Lady Mac, then bike / run across town to hike up EEOR and finally Ha Ling. This turns out to be more than 10,000m of gain in a single day.

In this version, we will be biking from the start and finish point to the peak (Georgetown Inn in the center of Canmore).

However, we will be taking it one step further to showcase just how hard it is to be a bee in today's first world.

1)  We will be doing the Mod-Quad in a full beesuit

2) The bee mask and suit will not be coming off for the entire duration except when crossing Knife Edge Ridge. Sweating excessively is nothing compared to the discomfort the bees face after becoming disoriented by pesticides. Imagine you are out pollinating and then end up freezing to death and dying of exposure when you can't find your hive - all because another species sprayed poison on your food source and messed with your honing abilities.

3) Spence will be carrying 50 pounds of fresh honey. The weight represents the stresses bees are under, which include herbicides, pesticides, industurial complex agricultural methods, climate change, loss of habitat and pests.

Monday September 10th at 12:01 AM is when the Save the Bees Mod-Quad begins.

With the funds raised from this endeavour, Project Doublebee will be creating an unique program called BEE AWARE AB, which is the first step towards our goal.  Targetting Calgary, Canmore and the surrounding towns of the Eastern Canadian Rockies foothills, the program will be free to the public and offer half day sessions to budding beekeeps, individuals interested in becoming beekeepers, or those wanting to learn more about environmental awareness. Registration will open in September and the program will launch in October.

Josie having some fun with bees!

Funds raised will go towards transportation costs to our apiaries, promotion of the program, bee suits and gear and educational materials.

Note: 100% of all donations will go to BEE AWARE AB with FULL transparency on our site. All receipts will be posted as will a breakdown of fund allocation. Eco Not Ego International believes in complete transparency.

We encourage you to donate what you can in support the bees and welcome you to sign-up for BEE AWARE AB, which is coming soon to www.econotego.ca

We can be reached at [email redacted], or at Spencer Raymond Madden on Facebook. Josie can be found on facebook at Josie Ganos. We are happy to chat with any media, or anyone who wants to join us on our challenge!

Two more challenges will occur in late Autumn, so stay tuned! Your donations, support and sharing means so much!
