Help Christina Keep Her Home

Update: Keep in mind the fundraiser is in SEK with the exchange rate being 1 USD = 10.63 SEK. So for example if you'd like to donate $10 you would input 106 SEK.

Update 2: We have raised the amount needed to stop the seizure and set up a payment plan! We are still trying to raise at least another 6000 euros in order to make monthly payments manageable for Christina to pay on her own.

My dear friend Christina is in immediate danger of losing her house to a wrongful debt placed upon her by her electricity provider. The debt amounts to 14,675 euros and if she doesn’t achieve a debt settlement by early Tuesday June 18th, she will lose her house before the month is over. We need 2800 euro by Tuesday to get a payment plan in place.

The story:

Two years ago, Christina started receiving absurdly inflated electricity bills for a power consumption that could not be justified by anything other than power theft (currently a major problem in Greece) or a mistake made by the electricity provider. This led to an ongoing struggle for Christina to find justice and to erase the wrongful debt. When DEI, the electricity provider, refused to look into or admit their mistake and erase the debt or at least reduce it, Christina got into a debt settlement program with them so she could pay off a small amount of the debt every month. During that time the debt was never reduced because of mounting interest. More inflated bills followed, leading Christina to cut off electricity in her home entirely, in fear of more debt. Since 2023 she has been living in Athens with no electricity.
A few days ago the provider abruptly and one-sidedly cancelled the settlement and sent Christina a notice of Nonjudicial Foreclosure (the papers have been uploaded in the pictures here). This means that in the next week (August 18th) the company will start proceedings to seize (and eventually auction off) the house Christina lives in and leave her and her rescue cats homeless.

About Christina

Christina has made her house into an unofficial cat sanctuary because the very few shelters are always packed and understaffed. Most of the cats are old and have chronic illnesses. Christina pays for all their medical bills and barely gets by with her small pension. This debt is going to take away everything Christina has worked so hard for to provide for herself and these animals.
I know Christina ever since I was a teenager and she has been there for me all this time, especially when I was going through a very difficult time. This is my way to help save her life’s work, but unfortunately, I don’t have the necessary funds to do so. If we can reach the first 3,000 euros so Christina can ask for a new debt settlement, we might be able to stall the foreclosure and give her time to completely repay the debt within 24 months.

I am only asking what you can give. I know these are hard times, but anything you can spare will make all the difference in the world.
