Ed Wheatley Jazz Scholarship

Several years ago, Charles Alford brought the idea of funding a jazz scholarship to the board of the ECU Friends of Jazz in memorium of his dear friend, Ed Wheatley, who had just passed away. Charles and Ed had a shared passion for jazz and its preservation for generations to come.  Charles worked diligently raising funds in the years since Ed's passing, but unfortunately was not able to see this scholarship fully funded before he himself passed away this past Christmas Eve. 

The total amount needed to permanently fund the scholarship is $25,000. Through Charles's hard work, along with many others and with the support of the community, we have secured $15,000 of that amount. We thank you for giving your best gift to keep Ed and Charles' dream of keeping jazz music alive through music education.
