Grow Willum Warrain
Calling on all First Nations’ friends, kin, allies and supporters! Willum Warrain’s Aboriginal community hub on the Mornington Peninsula is seeking your support so we can grow, heal more lives and the keep the diverse cultures of our members strong for all Australians into the future. Please donate now to help us build our centre. Click on the Donate now button to the right →
We are a leading Gathering Place for Aboriginal people affected by the Stolen Generation, a place of genuine hope and healing. We are helping our mob recover from broken songlines, being off country and away from kin. We are waking up sleeping culture and sharing our knowledge with schools and the broader community via our Cultural Immersion Tours and the Willum Warrain Bush Nursery. Each year, thousands of visitors come to Willum Warrain to learn about our rich First Nations’ cultures.
But we are dreaming bigger....
Local Council is on the verge of approving a long-term lease to double our current land size - amazing! We have presented a master plan for what we will do with this land. Please have a look - it’s going to be life-changing for so many Aboriginal people: https://tinyurl.com/2m3ewc9j
Of course, this big dreaming comes with a big price tag … $6.8m! But we are determined. And the long journey starts with first steps. We are applying for government and philanthropic grants that will get us a good way there. Some grants are looked upon more favourably if we can show strong local support or provide matching funding - this is where we need you.
We are now raising $150K to:
*Demonstrate to grant-money providers that their money is locally supported;
*Commence phase one of our building program (when permissions allow) which focuses on a new entrance building and parking for more visitors;
*To fast track employment opportunities for our mob down this way.
So please dig deep. Your every dollar will have a multiplied impact!
We will post regular updates here or please reach out at any time to enquire, give us feedback or talk about other ways you can be part of this journey.
Thank you from the whole WW Team!
More information about Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association:
Willum Warrain Aboriginal Association has operated an Aboriginal Gathering Place in Hastings on the Mornington Peninsula since 2014. Run by an Aboriginal Board, Willum Warrain (“home by the sea” in the local Boon Wurrung language) is a place of belonging and cultural connection for mob living down this way. The Gathering Place runs culture-based programs for Aboriginal women, men, youth, children and families as well as major Indigenous events throughout the year, many of which are open to the public. Willum Warrain is also a destination for reconciliation, providing weekly cultural tours for schools, businesses and agencies.
As a whole-of-organisation charity, Willum Warrain also supports members of our Aboriginal community when they are experiencing distress in their lives.
