EDDIE TORRES LEGACY FUND
Donation protected
We are starting this Go Fund Me campaign to pay for a plaque on The Whittier Boulevard Latino Walk of Fame to honor the legacy of Eddie Torres (R.I.P.) Eddie Torres is the man largely responsible for putting the music known as Thee Eastside Sound, Whittier Boulevard & East Los Angeles on the map throughout the world. No one deserves their name on Whittier Blvd more than Eddie. Eddie gave his life to East L.A. and the bands he produced & promoted throughout the Southwest U.S.A. The legendary bands Eddie put on stage included Thee Midniters, Tierra, Thee Impalas & E.L.A. Odyssey. In addition, Eddie brought other iconic artists to the Eastside. These artists included Linda Ronstadt, Vicente Fernandez, Redbone, Ike & Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Van Morrison, Sonny & Cher and Santana. Eddie’s career in music spanned 4 decades, from the 1960s to the 2000s. The list of artists he put on stage could go on for days. Eddie was also the founder, Director and Producer of The Huggy Boy T.V. Show. Equally impressive is the fact that Eddie started his record label, Whittier Records when he was still in his 20s.
Eddie is affectionally remembered as "The King of Promoters" and "The Mayor of East L.A." From the 60s to 1987 Eddie's home, and office were literally on the corner of Whittier Blvd. & Atlantic Blvd. in East L.A. Unfortunately, the 1987 earthquake forced Eddie to move. Below is a link to a mini-documentary about Eddie's life:
Before becoming a music producer, Eddie did social work with teenagers in the Eastside. He sponsored countless social clubs. He taught youth entrepreneurial skills.
A testament to Eddie's dedication to service is the fact that he lied about his age to join the United States Marine Corps when he was only 16. Eddie proved to be an excellent Marine. Eddie was promoted to Sergeant in only 4 years, a huge accomplishment in the 1950s when racism in the military was much more prevalent than it is today. Eddie was also honored as Marine of the Month 4 times at 3 different duty stations.
Eddie helped countless people throughout his life. He also provided young people throughout the Southwest with safe and fun entertainment with his legendary concerts & dances that brought communities together and created memories that will last a lifetime. A plaque on the Whittier Boulevard Walk of Fame will serve as a reminder of the man who loved East L.A. & Whittier Blvd. more than he loved himself. And produced the iconic rock anthem, "Whittier Boulevard," that made Whittier Blvd. the landmark it is today,
We need as many friends, fans & family members as possible to share our Go Fund Me campaign on all social media platforms and share with your people via text or email. Eddie always promoted others. He never made his events about him. Proof of this is he wouldn't take pictures with the musicians he/we promoted; consequently, Eddie never got the credit he deserved.
All contributors will have their names in the event program for the plaque dedication ceremony, and the YouTube video to follow. Be a part of East L.A. history and help us give Eddie Torres finally get the tribute he deserves. THIS IS YOUR LEGACY TOO! Please give whatever you can, if you can and please share often.
