Eddy Newsom needs your HELP!

Hi, my name is Shelly Wheaton. I’m fundraising for a dear friend, Eddy. Eddy is much more than a friend…he is family. In 2019, Eddy’s wife, Andrea, gave me the amazing Gift of Life. She donated a kidney to me… She is my Kidney Sista!

It is my turn to help Eddy and Andrea! If you’ve ever met Eddy, you would undoubtedly remember his love of family, his love of storytelling, his sense of humor and willingness to give you the shirt off his back.

This gentle giant is known as Pookie and Papa to those closest to him. He makes the world a better place, and now he needs us. This is Eddy’s story…

In May, Eddy started not feeling right. He had multiple doctor appointments and tests. Blood work, X-rays and Ultrasound appeared pretty normal. Nothing added up to the amount of pain he was experiencing. Eddy’s unknown illness and 60-pound weight loss progressed rapidly. Eddy has been enduring long, pain-filled days over the last three months.

Last week, Eddy was admitted to the hospital. The medical team at JPS has discovered several large tumors in Eddy’s pancreas and nearby organs. The tumors are in the process of being biopsied. His bile ducts are also suspicious. He has had several procedures over the past few days, and they were able to help with drainage over the weekend. The doctors suspect pancreatic cancer and are waiting on the results to determine the stage and course of treatment. Per Andrea, the entire team at JPS has been amazing!

NOT the diagnosis anyone wanted to hear, but now there is a diagnosis, and the battle is on. Eddy and his family are keeping a positive attitude and are choosing to LIVE with JOY on this JOURNEY. They are confident he can overcome this disease, but they can’t do it alone.

Physically, emotionally and financially, this is going to be a BATTLE. They both are self-employed, and Andrea has not left Eddy’s side. She has taken a leave from the salon until they can figure out what their routine will look like and when she may return to work.

These are two of the most selfless people I have ever KNOWN. With that in mind, I am starting this fundraiser to help alleviate the financial burden they are already experiencing. I want Eddy, Andrea and their amazing family to focus all their energy on fighting this diagnosis and recovering.
