Edgar's medical bills
Donation protected
After graduating with his master's in social work and starting his dream job as a clinical therapist in the summer of 2019, Edgar was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (a type of bone cancer) in October 2019. He underwent 10 cycles of chemo and the amputation of his left foot at MD Anderson Cancer Center. He has adapted well to his prosthetic foot and has received hearing aids (needed due to chemo effects).
We were fortunate to receive housing assistance in Houston (thanks to Tom Antone!), and we have medical insurance. Nevertheless, we've racked up close to $15,000 dollars in unpaid out-of-pocket medical expenses, including $9,000 at MD Anderson (20% co-insurance adds up!) and $2,400 for the hearing aids. We've got better insurance now and have budgeted for future imaging and surveillance. Any contributions will go to the bills we racked up in the first frenetic 6-8 months.
We are currently rebuilding our lives together in El Paso. Edgar is recovering well, his prognosis is optimistic, and he's now back to work as a licensed master social worker (LMSW)!
