Hope for Hazel

Hi beautiful people. My name is Shannon, and I am honored to be called aunt to the most beautiful blue-eyed baby girl. Hazel Frances McRory was born on January 11, 2023. I am creating this gofundme to help Andy and Bianca with the costs of medical bills and surgeries they will need for their daughter to help her thrive.
During Bianca's pregnancy, at around 34 weeks, they found out that Hazel had extra fluid in the ventricles of her brain, malformation of the cerebellum, and complete agenesis of the corpus callosum. The prognosis was poor, and the doctors didn't believe she would survive birth. Hazel was born with multiple anomalies on top of her brain malformation, including extra digits on her hand and foot, two fused fingers, and incomplete formations of her gums and tongue. Hazel was diagnosed with Dandy-Walker Syndrome and Oral Facial Digital Syndrome, leading Andy and Bianca to numerous doctor appointments in Macon and Atlanta. These appointments involve Hazel getting multiple imaging studies, genetic testing, and blood work. Her most recent CT scan showed more fluid accumulation in her brain and a cyst. In addition to all the pediatric doctor appointments, Hazel is in physical and occupational therapy twice weekly. Our precious little miracle baby has exceeded all expectations but still has a long way to go.
Dandy-Walker Syndrome (DWS) is a pre-birth condition that affects the normal development of the cerebellum. The cerebellum is located at the back of the brain and controls movement and balance. The outcomes can vary greatly when DWS is present alongside other genetic conditions. Therefore, early treatment to support physical and mental development is crucial in improving a child's quality of life and chances of living the best life possible with their condition.
The Oral Facial Digital Syndrome impacts the growth of the mouth, teeth, facial characteristics, fingers, and toes. Additionally, it is related to brain irregularities and a certain level of cognitive impairment.
Seeing Andy and Bianca so heartbroken upon hearing the news about their baby girl was tough for me. They had to deal with the news themselves, share it with their family, and face their reactions, which made it all the more real. The news completely changed everything from that day on. Bianca's last few months of pregnancy were filled with fear and uncertainty. Despite what the doctors had said, the family tried to stay positive and hopeful for them. Hazel, their baby girl, is a happy child who keeps getting stronger each day. Although she may reach her milestones a little later than expected, she still progresses toward them.
Hazel's situation requires ongoing care rather than a one-time fix. She will need therapies, appointments, surgeries, and aids throughout her life. Our goal is to ensure she receives everything she needs and deserves.
No donation is too small. Words of encouragement are appreciated. Sharing Hazel's cause will move mountains for Andy and Bianca. Please send good vibes that Hazel continues to reach milestones and experiences a smooth recovery after her surgeries.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for taking the time to read about our girl.
