Edinburgh Festival Fringe (Scotland Trip)
Donation protected
Hi, everyone! My name is Owen DiSciullo. I am currently a senior at California State University, Fullerton, and I am getting my BFA in Devised Performance & Physical Theatre. My class and I are planning on studying abroad at the end of Summer 2024. We have received an amazing opportunity to be apart of the yearly annual Festival Fringe that takes place in the capital of Scotland. This is the biggest theatre festival in the entire world, and we will be performing a completely new devised production that will have been in the works for one whole year!
Any and all donations are greatly appreciated, and will be used to fund my passport, flights/transportation, food, living arrangements, and other financial expenses and theatre based activities. No amount is too small, as this experience feels like a once in a lifetime opportunity. Below is a look into the latest festival for 2023!
Here is some insight on my theatre background to conclude:
This year marks my tenth year being involved in the performing arts. I first began doing theatre when I was eleven. My main focus for a while was musical theatre, as I was accepted into the musical theatre program at my middle school, then transitioned to two musicals a year in high school. When I was seventeen, I auditioned for a production outside of my education. It was for the musical Anne of Green Gables at the Chance Theater in Anaheim, California. This experience changed my life as it gave me early professional experience before college. Once I started at CSUF, my emphasis was still musical theater, but I quickly gained a variety of knowledge regarding the concept of devised theatre and what that meant. My freshmen year was during the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the College of the Arts at my university still navigated ways of doing theatre for students old and new. I was fortunate enough to be cast in a podcast-style theatrical project titled Beyond the Square. This piece was a first taste of "devised theatre" for me because it showed me what collaboration looked like on another level. I was very proud to be part of such a production, and it is available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Stitcher to this day.
I continued on to perform in a workshop musical the following year (returning to being in person), and was grateful to be apart of three more productions through CSUF. I now work as a performer in the Entertainment Department at the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California, and I couldn't be more grateful to live the experiences I do when I am there. As of currently (and previously stated), my class is working on devising a brand new theatre piece from the ground up, which we will first perform in the coming Spring semester at CSUF, then take internationally next August.
Thank you all so much for your support!
