Edith Kwobah's Health Care
Donation protected
Dr. Edith Kwobah is an extraordinary doctor, colleague, friend and mother who has dedicated her career to improving the lives and well-being of her patients struggling with severe mental health disorders. For many of us involved in AMPATH, Edith is an inspiration, a close collaborator, and a teacher who fuels our passion and commitment to continue investing in our work. She truly represents an extraordinary doctor in her commitment to patient care, teaching, research, leadership, and developing new care systems for people living with mental illness.
Edith received a devastating and unexpected diagnosis of advanced cancer with metastases to her brain. Edith and her family do not yet know the full implications but know they must stay strong to begin the difficult fight ahead. As her diagnostic work-up continues and treatment recommendations are finalized, Edith is starting urgent stereotactic radiation therapy to the brain lesions this week in Nairobi. What is clear is that she and her family will have significant medical costs in ensuring she has the best care. As Edith begins a difficult journey to receive treatment for metastatic cancer, please help her and her family with the significant costs of her care and the family's needs.
Matthew Turissini and Laura Ruhl started this funding site and have had the pleasure to work with Edith Kwobah since 2017. All funds raised will be transferred to Edith and Charles Kwobah (husband) in Kenya for Edith's care and to support her family.
To use Edith's own words to describe our goal with this support (from a blog entry titled 'The girl from Ndeiya..' written about her early years https://www.medroomeyes.com/post/the-girl-from-ndeiya). "When I go to work and see the plaque on my door that reads Dr. Edith Kamaru Kwobah, MBcHB, Mmed, PhD, HOD, Department of Mental Health, and I look at this girl from Ndeiya I know that nothing is impossible. If my father could take me to Loreto Limuru with nothing, then nothing is impossible."
