Honoring Edna Spivey, a pastor's wife.
Edna Spivey was suddenly diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer in the last week of March 2019. 2 weeks later, she was on a feeding tube. 3 weeks later, she toughed out a very aggressive regimen of chemotherapy and radiation. Now, 15 weeks in, she is in hospice care. The cancer is too aggressive and her body, at 73 years young, can only take so much.
Friends have graciously reached out to ask how they can help, and therefore we have decided to create a go fund me to lift some of the financial burdens off of our dad, Larry. Pastors like Larry and Edna are precious to us all. This go fund me page is a way to communicate our love and concern, and share some of the hardships of a situation like this.
We ask, most of all, for our friends and family to pray for us. Pray for Larry especially as he will be losing his sweetheart and pastoring partner of 50 years. Life without Edna will be hard for us and there is much to take care of.
Edna is in hospice care at her daughter, Susie's house. Larry is also there, caring for her during this time. We hope to get Larry some rest, by bringing in nurses to help with hospice care within the home. Susie is away at work during the week, and is only available after work each day. Nancy drives to Nevada every weekend to help as much as she can. Larry is very tired and hurting.
Larry and Edna were in the middle of yet another kingdom-building task of the pastorate in Nevada. The church is a beautiful, faithful and small congregation. Please pray for their church. The building program is not stopping. The congregation is picking up the slack. The town where many need a church to call home, and Jesus as their Savior.
Thank you so much for prayers, concern, letters, and messages. In the darkness, it just takes one small flicker of light to breakthrough. The kindness, love, compassion, and prayers of our brothers and sisters in Christ have been that flicker for us, many times.
We thank God for you. We thank God for a wonderful person, Edna, who has been wife, mother, nana, sister, auntie, and pastor. We especially thank God, in the last days we still get to have her around, that our hope in all of this is Heaven!
