Eduardo Ortiz Funeral Services

It is with great sorrow that we are typing this now. On Tuesday, January 4, 2022, our beloved friend, Eduardo Ortiz was called up to Heaven by our creator due to complications related to COVID-19. He put up a big fight for his life, finally succumbing after months in the hospital at only 40 years old. Some of us knew him as “Cholo”, “BabyBoy”, or simply “Eddie” but we all knew him as a man with a big heart who was loved by many.

I first met Eddie 20 years ago on a baseball field. Like many of our mutual friends, we love baseball and softball, watching and playing it. His athleticism impressed me as did his commitment to our team. Recently he was no longer playing, yet always took the opportunity to give me a hard time about how bad I was and how he was a better player (which is true, but I never admitted it to him). I am going to miss him tremendously. I lost my father three years ago, unexpectedly. Eddie called me and I was unable to answer so he sent me several text messages. Amongst the messages, one that I would like to share is when Eddie said this, “If you need a homie, I am here”. For those of us who knew him, that text encapsulates the friendship, loyalty, and care that I am sure all of us experienced from him.

The reason for creating this page is due to the circumstances Eddie’s family has experienced this past year. Not only was Eddie in the hospital fighting for his life for months, but his father Eddie Sr. is also in critical condition at the moment. Eddie Sr. has had the misfortune of being in and out of the hospital for the past year. For obvious reasons, both Jr. and Sr. have been unable to work, thus completely cutting off income to their family. His family did not ask me to do this, I simply felt powerless to help Eddie while he was in the hospital and want to do something to at minimum help his family. As I am certain many of you know, funeral expenses are extremely high. Eddie’s family is going through more than anyone should have to bear, so dealing with the economic stress only makes matters worse.

No amount is too low and if you are unable to donate, it is understandable. All I ask is that you say a prayer for Eddie’s family and for his mother. No parent should have to bury their child. I cannot fathom what she is going through, but she has expressed her gratitude for everyone’s prayers. Thank you.
