Education Equity Fund of Alexandria

At Maury Elementary school in Alexandria City we have a significant number of students who reside in Atkins Public Housing (across the street from Braddock Metro).  These are our kids, these are Maury scholars, artists, athletes, but most of all these are valued members of our community.  As the beginning of the school year is quickly approaching it’s become evident that it will be impossible to resume an in-person school opening due to the constraints of social distancing. Several parents from Atkins have approached us that their children are in need of a professional tutor who can regularly support their academics in a personalized/one-on-one virtual setting. One of their beloved former teachers (Ms. Amy Leslie) who left Maury to pursue a career as a teacher coach has agreed to take a one year leave of absence and tutor her former students during this year of uncertainty. 

We have secured $10,000 from two donors as a starting point but we need to secure an additional $50,000 by August 28th so that we can serve students this year who are in the greatest need of additional academic support.  We sincerely hope you will consider this one-time ask so that these students and their families have the support they need this upcoming school year.  We cannot thank you enough for your consideration!
