Education, Love, and Care in Nigeria
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Cameron Mofid and I've just returned home to the U.S. from a trip through West Africa. During my time there, I had the opportunity to visit a school in one of the world's most impoverished slums in Nigeria.
In recognition of the dire situation, I have decided to raise funds for the school.
The Part of Solution Nursery and Primary School
The Part of Solution Nursery and Primary School is located in Makoko, which is a slum in Lagos, Nigeria. It's hard to put into words what Makoko is, but essentially it's a heavily overpopulated slum built on stilts in a lagoon. It is home to some of the world's poorest people (around 250,000 of them), many of whom live on less than $1 a day. Every day, the students squeeze into makeshift canoes and row themselves to school. The school (also built on stilts in the lagoon) has an enrollment of 351 students and a staff of 8 teachers. The school also serves as an orphanage home, with 30 of the students being orphans.
Some of the students can't afford uniforms ($10), books ($5), or backpacks ($5). The school is also behind on payments to its teachers, who have a salary of $20 per month. The government provides no financial support.
Throughout the fundraiser, I will be distributing the donations directly to Sunday Shemende, who operates The Part of Solution Nursery and Primary School. Even a few dollars can do tremendous good. Thank you so much for your donations.
