Education- an investment to empower and make a difference!

My name is JR Garzon, I’m an educator with over 40 years of teaching and educational leadership experience in all regions of Alberta, México and Africa.

I have been devoted to promoting quality education.

We know that providing access to basic education gives students the knowledge, skills and confidence to face the many challenges they encounter daily in order to survive. Education is the key driver for reducing poverty, achieving gender equality, and promoting social development.

This past year I had the opportunity to volunteer in Burundi and Uganda, two countries, not unlike many in the developing world, where access to a basic education is extremely limited for a large number of children and youth.

In Uganda, according to a 2019 World Bank report, up to 83 % of primary school-age learners lack foundational learning skills, with many lagging behind their expected grade-level achievement.

I have chosen to focus my efforts by supporting Musamba Primary School in an impoverished remote area in southwestern Uganda, that serves several mountain communities. I

I am profoundly moved by witnessing the poorest of students with a strong desire to learn and improve. They do so with smiles on their faces even though many walk for up to 2 hours, and arrive at school with no notebooks, pens, pencils, no shoes, nor a snack or food to eat.

Seeing the devotion of the teachers making every effort to give the children whatever they can in an effort to enlighten them. That experience is what compels me to continue to devote a large part of my life to making a difference in the lives of children and youth.

This campaign is dedicated to transforming Musamba into a place where every child can flourish. We are seeking to provide essential supplies, resources, and proper facilities to support the incredible teachers who work tirelessly against the odds. These teachers give everything they have, but they cannot do it alone.

1. Provide each student and their teacher with essential learning and teaching resources, such as notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, mathematical sets, rulers, science equipment, math hands on resources, paper, backpacks and proper blackboards.

2. Provide each student with a school uniform and pair of shoes.

3: Supply girls with feminine hygiene products.

The school has identified several areas of need, priorities will be set by the leadership and teachers.
