Dear Family and Friends.
For almost two years, I’ve been a part of an outstanding group of program evaluators, research specialists, educators, and academic scholars as a Ph.D. student of Educational Studies in Educational Leadership and Cultural Foundations at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I’ve had the privilege of being one of eight members of an outstanding team of professionals and fourth in authorship who have done groundbreaking work in the field of Educational Leadership Preparation and Anti-Racist Research Methodology. We have been granted the opportunity to present some of our initial observations in proposals at two national conferences. One proposal to The American Evaluation Association (AEA) in October in Indianapolis, Indiana, and two proposals to The University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA) in Minneapolis, Minnesota in November. I would like your financial help to be part of our team when presenting our proposals at these two premier conferences later this year. AEA Proposal:

“Our Words Are Vulnerable”: Storytelling Through Anti-Racist Methodology that Centers Care and Authenticity

Anti-racist evaluation work needs to be engaged actively and iteratively. In this roundtable session, we will reflect on the process of this investigation, including the feedback we received from the Leaders of Color about this process. Additionally, we will share our experiences from our diverse perspectives, discuss lessons learned, and highlight key takeaways from this process.

UCEA Proposals:

Counternarratives and Lived Experiences of Leaders of Color: Informing a Hard Reset for Leadership Preparation

Utilizing an anti-racist research design to examine the counternarratives and lived experiences of P12 school leaders of color (LOC) in their nationally recognized leadership preparation program and within their districts, this study’s purpose is to better support and invest in leaders of color to advance equity in P12 schools. Themes include the necessity of engaging race in leadership preparation; feelings of belonging – and not; and the burden of being dark and finding joy in community.

Anti-Racist Research as Methodology: A Hard Reset to Conducting Inquiry

The UCEA Call requires us to trouble the status quo of educational leadership research and disrupt oppressive practices in inquiry. We propose a Critical Conversation on anti-racist research methodology. While an anti-racist methodology may involve methods that are used broadly by researchers, the way in which such methods are selected and employed reflects theoretical and epistemological commitments and thus makes anti-racist methodology distinct. The format will include situation and positioning, dialogue, and co-constructed possibilities.
