Edward George is facing eviction

We are a group of friends of Eddie George and we have set up this Go Fund Me page to ask for support to help him through a housing crisis he is experiencing at present.

Eddie George is an independent artist, writer, researcher and broadcaster based in London. Many of you will know Eddie through his Strangeness of Dub radio series, his regular slot on Threads or will have seen him speak live at venues such as Cafe Oto and the Barbican Centre. Eddie has been a practicing artist for forty years, first as a founding member of the Black Audio Film Collective, then with the multi-media project Flow Motion and the electronic music group Hallucinator.

During much of this time Eddie has lived in a council property as a tenant of Haringey Council. This flat is not only his home, but it serves as the base for his practice. Last year, due to a set of circumstances related to poor health, he became unable to keep up with rent payments on his home. This has resulted in Haringey Council demanding that he pay the bulk of his arrears upfront and then commit to a significant monthly repayment, with the alternative being eviction.

Unfortunately, due to the nature of his work, Eddie does not have a secure income and is therefore experiencing severe difficulties with the repayment demands from Haringey. Should he get evicted, he has nowhere else to go. He would be homeless. We are therefore asking for donations in order to help Eddie repay the council and keep his flat. This request for donations is going to form part of a long-term plan we are working on with Eddie in order to establish some more secure and regular forms of income so as to avoid a similar situation arising again further down the line.

We would really appreciate your support. We recognise everyone is going through tough times at the moment, and therefore Eddie is no exception. However, we are just looking to help out a friend who has done so much to make our world a better place to walk through. Those of you who have experienced his work or have had a chance to spend time with Eddie will no doubt recognise our depth of feeling.

All proceeds go directly to Eddie who is set up as the sole beneficiary of this fundraiser.
