My name is Kristi and I am fundraising for my father, Edward Honea. If you live in Clifton, you have probably met my father. He's lived in the area his entire life and started to build houses over 50 years ago with his brother in their joint business, Honea Bros. Construction. On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, dad suffered a blood clot in his right leg which restricted the blood flow from approximately the knee down. He was transported to Providence Hospital in Waco at approximately 9:00 in the morning via ambulance and was sent via CareFlight to Houston (Memorial Hermann Vascular and Heart Institute) at approximately 8:00 pm that evening. Over the next 12 days, surgeons performed 3 procedures to remove the clot and others including a bilateral fasciotomy to try to save his leg. On Saturday, January 21st, his amazing surgical team met with the family to discuss his precarious situation. He was medically unstable and required blood transfusions and multiple medications to keep him from suffering but the foot and leg were not recovering. Every reserve of strength in his body was going into saving his leg, and he was deteriorating rapidly. It was decided at that time the best course of action was to amputate his leg below the knee. On Monday, January 23, dad's surgery to amputate his leg below the knee was completed with minimal complications. He was moved to inpatient rehab on Thursday, January 26th at Memorial Hermann in Houston and we are trying to have him transferred to a facility closer to home where his family and friends can visit without the 4-hour drive each way. At this time, we are asking for donations to help offset the medical expenses and loss of income dad will incur in the next 6-18 months as he transitions to a new normal. We are hopeful he will be fitted with a prosthetic within 6 months to a year and will have fully restored mobility, but the reality is that his life will never be the same and he will no longer be able to do everything he once did on a daily basis. We have had so many family, friends, community members and others reach out to ask how they can help. We covet your prayers for dad's recovery, his mental health and my mother's strength as she cares for dad. The financial donations given here will allow them to focus on the important journey to healing without being worried about the loss of income or the medical bills that insurance won't cover. It's been said by many people over the decades, "Ed Honea will build you a house for a handshake or a hug, with minimal profit to support himself" and he always does "extra" that he never bills to his customers. We are asking you to give back to the giver. He would never ask for help for himself, and we humbly ask on his behalf for your support of this terrific, hardworking man.
