Whether hopping on Marta to go see her ‘Dream Team’…. or standing 'court-side' in the Norcross High School Gym….or yelling at her GA Dawgs on TV as she did a week before her death…Girls - Women's Basketball was Edwina’s life…not just while she coached... but up until her very last breath.
Her teaching/coaching career started in 1963 at Avondale High School and ended in 1993 at Dunwoody High…she racked up close to 300 wins in her coaching career but more important than the wins on the court are the ‘wins’ off the court….her ability to ‘push’ for excellence in all aspects of life has been demonstrated by the many heartfelt messages we’ve received from so many people who knew her and was coached by her.
To honor such a well lived life, we want to continue her legacy by giving to the game she loved most. The pandemic has put such a financial strain on so many families that often extra curricular activities, such as sports, gets eliminated from the family budget….and understandably so. It’s during these times we all need to dig deep and help if we can.
The Edwina Bryan Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide scholarships to young women who need assistance with paying for their gear, uniforms, shoes and any dues needed to play the game of basketball....our desire is to help as MANY as we possibly can during these tough economic times that the pandemic has caused. (we will be working with some of Edwina's close friends and former players to ensure 100% of the funds are used for deserving players)...
So many of you have asked us…’how can we help’ or ‘where can we give’…..well, what better way than to honor Edwina Bryan by helping these young girls in need…..
As we give from this fund, and with permission from the families / girls we help, we will share how the legacy of Edwina lives on way past her lifetime on this earth...
“Here's a salute to a long good life: goodness that outlives the grave....love that outlasts the final breath.. ..May you live your life in such a way that your death is just the beginning of your life.”....Max Lucado
