PENNY UPDATE DOWN BELOW

Our beloved 7-year-old kitty, Penny, has recently faced a life-threatening ordeal. She was last seen Saturday morning (4/27) before I left for work. In that short time she had gone missing. The next 24 hours were spent feverishly looking for her, pulling an all nighter. We took one more look, going through a gated alley and there she was. She was tragically hit by a car and left for hours until we found her clinging to life in this alley on Sunday afternoon. The impact resulted in a neck laceration and neural damage, likely in her spinal cord region, rendering her unable to walk. Penny has been more than just a pet; she's been a cherished member of our family since she arrived at our doorstep six years ago. Many in our neighborhood know her friendly face, especially when she's perched on her favorite cat window, watching the world go by. Our veterinarian has given us hope, believing that once the bruising subsides, Penny stands a good chance of recovering. However, as with many veterinary treatments, the costs are substantial, and we find ourselves facing a daunting financial burden. We are reaching out to our community and beyond for support in covering Penny's medical expenses. Every donation, no matter how small, will make a significant difference in Penny's journey to recovery. Your generosity will not only help alleviate her pain but also bring her back to the lively, loving cat we know and adore. Please consider donating and sharing Penny's story. Your kindness and compassion will help us give Penny the care she needs and deserves. Below we have attached the first bill from the initial leg of this journey. Tomorrow, our baby sees the neuro team. For the sake of full transparency, we will continue to update with all the bills that come our way. Thank you for your support during this difficult time.

{UPDATE}
Dear Supporters, I’m shaking as I’m trying to write this. We want to share an update on our baby Penny's journey. When we initially brought her home, the vet told us she had a couple “superficial” scrapes that they “weren’t worried about”. She also acted like she was ‘paralyzed’ on her left side without actually being so. She couldn’t lift her head or move her left leg, essentially making her totally helpless without our assistance. But, no broken bones and no internal bleeding- hooray!! Over the next few days, this wee, but mighty, girl really showed her strength and resilience by slowly regaining her mobility and spirit! We have been OVER THE FREAKIN MOON with how quickly she seemed to be bouncing back- we were gonna have a full recovery! However, 2 days ago a heartbreaking twist came when we discovered an absolutely massive and horrific abscess that exploded at the site of her supposed “minor” neck scrapes. It’s the most graphic thing I have EVER seen in person and I’ve been in rescue for quite a while. We immediately called the vet she had been seeing since the accident and they told us to email a picture of the wound, and we did. We were all in agreement that she should be seen as soon as possible. At her initial visit, the vets said the scratch could have been from an animal so we even got her a rabies vaccine. But, they didn’t even do so much as put a bandaid on it! They didn’t give any antibiotics, didn’t urge any aftercare, nothing. We kept asking about the scrapes and they seemingly couldn’t have cared less about them, so we trusted their professional opinion. Feeling completely heartbroken, we gently asked for just a little monetary leniency on a recheck up since they should have caught this. But, they refused to take any accountability for not catching this and even tried to blame ME for it. We are exhausted mentally, physically, and financially. I spoke to a friend who owns a popular rescue here in south Philly and based on her LONG experience, she gave me great advice on what Penny will likely need going forward and the terrifying cost this mistake would probably lead to. She also urged her opinion that this was never a car accident. That she was attacked by a dog who likely grabbed her by the neck and shook her, which makes so much more sense. All of this could have been avoided had they done their due diligence with her neck wounds. It didn’t have to be this way had they done anything at all. Your generosity has already saved Penny's life, and we're more grateful than we could put into words for that. Now, as we face this new challenge, we humbly ask for any additional support you can provide. Your kindness gives Penny a fighting chance for a full recovery, and we can't express our gratitude enough. Even sharing her story on social media does wonders! Thank you for being part of Penny's journey and for your unwavering compassion- every penny goes to Penny! With the utmost heartfelt appreciation, Rebecca and Nate
