Marley's Medical Fund
Just over a week ago we came home to find our 2.5 year old Lab x, Marley, so sick that she couldn't even stand up. It had come on fast and whatever was causing it was causing major swelling and putting too much pressure on her brain. After a very long week of meeting with the top oncologist, neurologists, radiologists and many other vets we finally came to a solution. An MRI and a CT scan had revealed an abscess.
Marley is from Mexico. When she was only 6-8 weeks of age, she found us just in the nick of time. With no sign of a litter or mother anywhere she was quite sick. Well it turns out it was much worse than we ever thought. From what we can gather, she had also most likely been bashed in the head causing damage of her frontal sinus and skull resulting in a gap through her sinus exposing her brain cavity. Our best guess is that an infection then started in her upper sinus causing an abscess that grew to invade the space around her brain. Her brain was then starting to be pushed out the back of her skull impeding her motor funtions.
Thanks to an amazing medical team, Marley was able to have surgery and most of the affected tissue was removed. She has a long recovery ahead of her as she slowly regains her strength on her right hand side of her body, though we are hopeful for a full recovery.
Marley's rare surgery has also been filmed and documented to educate vets and hopefully help save other lives in the future.
While we are so grateful that our beautiful girl is coming home to us and has a full life ahead of her, we now must face the medical bills. Please help pass along Marley's story. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Ian, Emily and Marley
