Eevee’s Liver Shunt Surgery

Hi, my name is Sydney and I am fundraising for our 7 month old corgi puppy Eevee. She was a rescue, and had a rough start. She was discarded from a puppy mill after being attacked by another dog. Eevee was malnourished and had sustained injuries, nerve damage and was found with parasites. We fostered Eevee in August but officially adopted her in October. She’s the sweetest girl and she changed our lives for the better.

In November, Eevee’s health took a 180 very fast and we found ourselves taking her to the emergency vet. There she was deemed in critical condition and was immediately taken to the ICU. They had found that Eevee had pneumonia which had turned into sepsis. She spent 4 nights there, one night she almost didn’t make it.

Along with the pneumonia, they had found incidentally that Eevee had a liver shunt. Since the shunt was inside her liver, she needs a specialized surgery. Eevee has always been extremely small for her age, and now we know why. Fortunately, we got to take Eevee home and have her on a prescription diet until her surgery.

Our ICU bill was $10,000 and our pet insurance (Trupanion) refused to cover any portion, after the doctor even appealed on her behalf. Of course, this was a large financial burden for us though with savings and help of family we are able to cover it.

We have been quoted another $10,000 for her surgery which will be in February/March. Once again, Trupanion is not covering any portion of those fees as they deemed it to be a pre existing condition.

This surgery will allow Eevee to live life like a normal dog. She gets to go off her prescription diet, and eat all of her favourite treats again without fear. She had a rough start to her life, but we want to make sure her best years are to come.
