Egle Otto’s medical care

Hello,

My name is Leonora Otto and I am the only child and sole family member of Egle Otto. On Wednesday, 8/3/22, my mom Egle had a stroke which caused a major bleed in her brain. Since then, she has been in critical condition at the University of MN’s medical center in the Neuro ICU.

My mom is a psychiatry Nurse Practitioner and because she works at a few different practices part-time, she does not currently have medical insurance. Also, since my mother is only 55 years old, she did not have a plan in place for Power of Attorney or a Living Will. Therefore, I do not have access to any of her money to be able to pay her bills, mortgage, or any medical expenses. Since she is in critical condition, I will have to petition for guardianship/conservatorship in order to legally be allowed to manage her finances - a lengthy and expensive process that I cannot afford but will have to pursue regardless.

To support my mother, I have had to leave Colorado and switch to part-time, remote work to be able to be with her. As a mental health professional, I have dedicated my life to helping others over the pursuit of money. And so, my switch to part-time work will only barely cover my expenses let alone cover my mom’s bills.

I am asking for your support to maintain her bills, keep her home, and keep her three dogs. In addition, her lengthy stay in the ICU will be astronomically expensive. My mom doesn’t have health insurance, but the cost of treatment is a massive burden even for those who do. All money donated will have a direct impact on the many medical bills coming her way, and it’ll ensure that she has the care and support she needs to have a full recovery.

Anyone who knows my mom can tell you that she is the type of person who is always willing to help someone in need. Prior to becoming an NP, she was a Registered Nurse for 20+ years. She has a big heart and not once in my life have I seen her hesitate to go above and beyond to help those in need. If anyone deserves some help, she does.
