BUILDING HANDS OF LEBANON has been deeply moved by the precarious situation of the musicians in Lebanon, a country facing incredible hardships since the explosion of the port of Beirut on August 4th, 2020. Lebanon is in despair in many ways; artists are suffering. Musicians need financial help for support in their art and day-to-day lives.
BUILDING HANDS OF LEBANON created the MUSIC FOR LEBANON project to offer opportunities for musicians in Lebanon to perform classical and contemporary music for wider audiences through live-streamed concerts. We want to build relationships that connect the past to the present to dream about the future. Music provides bridges between composers, conductors, musicians, educators and audiences that invite each into dialogues that transcend physical limitations of time and barriers, both external and internal.
BE PART OF the Music for Lebanon project. This exhilarating humanitarian journey will help musicians who have been silenced to get their voices back and educators to pursue their mission of making music part of children’s lives.
Music for Lebanon is to the profit musicians from the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra and freelance instrumentalists. We thrive by developing an awareness of the Lebanese rich musical and cultural heritage by commissioning new pieces by contemporary Lebanese composers. Education is also an essential part of our mission.
The three goals of Music for Lebanon are:
- MUSICAL
Hiring musicians of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Lebanon and freelance instrumentalists for a series of 3 free live streamed concerts led by Jean-Pierre Schmitt, conductor, in October and December 2022 and April 2023. Our commitment is also to perform and commission new pieces from Lebanese composers. We will premier Transumanti” by Nicolas J. Chaanine in December.
- HUMANITARIAN
Proceeds will directly benefit the Lebanese musicians, composers and educators.
- EDUCATIONAL
A unique program to bring music to school with concerts tailored to the children’s ages and hands-on presentation of instruments.
