Canada Uganda EMS Society

East Africa in general, and Uganda specifically, have mortality rates due to trauma and illness that are roughly 10 times the rates in the developed world. This is substantially due the lack of care patients get before they arrive at a hospital - ambulances are few, ill-equipped, and expensive, especially in the poor areas of the country.

The Canada Uganda EMS Society has, over the past two years, recruited, trained, and supplied 2 groups of Medical First Responders to help deal with a severe lack of pre-hospital medical care in Kawempe, a very poor district of Kampala, Uganda. These volunteers have been very busy treating patients with various ailments, including many very serious injuries and illnesses.

Phase 3 is planned for February of 2020, and is very ambitious. We plan to purchase, stock, and operate an ambulance to provide free care and transport to the citizens of Kawempe. To this end we will be fund-raising from various sources, including online with this campaign. Our online goal is $20 000 of the projected $100 000 cost of the project for a year.

Donations of any size will help - $20 will pay the wages of our medics for a day; $100 will purchase a supply of linen for the stretcher, $200 will cover rent of our base for a month, and so on. A reliable used ambulance is the largest ticket item, of course, at about $20 000.

We thank you for your interest and your support for this very worthwhile project. For more information please go to our website at canadaugandaemssociety.org, or find us on Facebook.
