EHS “We the People” 2023 - National Competition
Donation protected
On Saturday, January 28th, the Easthampton High School We the People team won the Center for Civic Educations Massachusetts State We the People Championship for the sixth year in a row. Each year a new set of Easthampton students performs to the highest level of academic excellence.
Now, the students of Easthampton High School’s class, We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution, and our dedicated teacher Ms. Kelley Brown, are reaching out for your support to go to the National competition in Washington D.C. Public school participation in these types of programs relies upon the participation of great teachers like Ms. Brown as well as private funding. In the past five years, Easthampton's team has won a national award in this elite competition every year, including taking the top spot in 2020, becoming National Champions.
The 36th National competition, where Easthampton will represent the state of Massachusetts, takes the form of a simulated congressional hearing. The Center for Civic Education We the People National Finals will be held from April 21 to April 25th, 2023. During the hearings, we will testify as constitutional scholars before panels of judges acting as congressional committees and be tested on our knowledge, understanding, and ability to apply constitutional principles. The competition centers around a series of complex questions ranging from philosophical origins to modern applications. View competition questions HERE.
For our team of students to compete at this prestigious National event we must raise $45,000 in funds to send 29 students to Washington DC. Will you help us represent Massachusetts this April in Washington D.C.?
Any support you can provide will go a long way in helping us on our journey to becoming future community leaders and good citizens. Our motto for We the People is, "Work hard. Think deeply. Prepare to lead the future." We take this motto seriously and will do our best to represent the state of Massachusetts in this elite competition, making the communities of the Commonwealth proud.
