Brandon Ojeda's Recovery Fund
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Shana "Brandon's Aunt" and am fundraising on behalf of Brandon Ojeda.
Three days after Brandon's 30th birthday on September 6, 2023, his life changed forever in a terrible car accident that left him seriously injured with a broken ribs, a fractured pelvis, tear in his aorta arch, liver and a C4-C6 spinal cord injury resulting as a T3 Asia B spinal cord injury and is paralyed from nipple line down. He went through 3 surgeries for his injuries and his next 3 weeks were spent in the ICU at UC Davis Sacramento. After breathing complications, Brandon spent the first two weeks on a ventilator and then on to a tracheotomy to assist in his respiratory recovery. Week 4 he was moved to Kaiser Vacaville and then onto Kaiser Vallejo Spinal Cord Injury and Wellness Clinic for his inpatient care with a rehabilitation team.
On Friday, November 10th he was happily released and made the journey to his new home of his Grandmother where he will receive home health care to continue with outpatient rehabilitation to recover. His family are endlessly advocating to ensure his therapy schedule leaves no stone unturned to get him the best chance for as much recovery as is possible.
This life changing event has taken away most of the strength of his once very strong body, he continues to get stronger every day while maintaining his infectious positive attitude, gratefulness and an unwavering drive to make a full recovery, he needs your help on this journey.
For those that have the privilege of knowing Brandon would say he is always a charismatic and energetic person who never backed down from a challenge. Brandon is facing his biggest challenge yet. Our goal of this fundraiser is to allow him to focus all of his time and energy on his road to recovery.
Brandon will need continued outpatient therapy, medications, medical supplies, and adaptive/medical equipment (beyond what medical insurance will cover). Brandon's family will need to modify their home with ramps, remodeled bathroom(s), other kitchen/exterior fixes, etc. to ensure his safe and independent living at home. He will need many things over time... including your love, care and support!
It is estimated that SCI patients could face over $1 million dollars in medical expenses in their first year of treatment, with more than $100,000 per year after. Additionally, SCI patients could be facing up to $70,000 in indirect expenses. While the majority of this will likely be covered by insurance, it goes without saying that even a small fraction that is not covered can add up.
The extent of Brandon's possible long-term recovery from his spinal cord injury is currently unknown and will best be measured in months or years (as opposed to days and weeks). Only time, and the extent to which his body heals will reveal those answers. Brandon's determination and unwavering spirit to strengthen his body in spite of the challenges he is facing inspires us all. Let’s come together to support him and his devoted family during this difficult time. Your help now will make a meaningful difference in his life and help him regain his independence and hope for a brighter future.
A contribution, large or small, is greatly appreciated, and if you can’t give but still wish to support Brandon journey, please share this with your friends and family. Together, we can make a profound impact on his life.
