EJ’s Speech Communication Device
Donation protected
For those who are new to our story, my son EJ has a myriad of health complications stimming from his main diagnosis, MSL3 Syndrome. MSL3 is an ultra rare genetic syndrome that impacts nearly every body system. In EJ’s case, he is nonverbal, nonambulatory, has heart defects, GI issues, feeding difficulties, sleep apnea and more.
EJ received a speech communication device through insurance that is extremely heavy and bulky, making it hard to tote around for practical use. We are trying a different route that I have heard great things about and have done a lot of research on. Using an iPad and a speech communication app called Lamp, EJ could communicate with ease through a much more portable device that is light enough and small enough to go in his backpack for use at school. The Lamp application is $299 and the iPad was $255 after taxes. If we can get some of this funded, I will also be buying a kid safe case so that the device does not get damaged. This could be an amazing opportunity for EJ to communicate with his family and make his needs more clear. Speech devices have been seen to bridge the gap between difficulty communication and some actual speech! We are so grateful you are even looking at our fundraiser and appreciate you looking into his story.
