My name is Elif Kilic. I am a sophomore at P. K. Yonge Developmental Research School in Gainesville, FL. I live with my retired grandparents because both of my biological parents are deceased. I currently have an unweighted 4.00 (weighted GPA of 4.31). I have achieved this GPA while taking honors courses, A.P. courses and involved in my school's marching and concert band. I play the euphonium. I am also involved with my school's FIRST Robotics team and SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) jr. chapter.
I've been selected to attend the 2016 National Student Leadership Conference on Engineering. This prestigious program selects outstanding high school students from around the world to participate based on academic excellence, extracurricular involvement, and demonstrated leadership potential. Here is a link to the website containing additional information about this program: http://www.nslcleaders.org/youth-leadership-programs/engineering-summer-programs/
The cost to attend this conference is $4,000. This includes the tuition, room and board, course materials, program activities, travel expenses and money for other incidental expenses. The second of three payments in the amount of $900 is due February first. The final payment of $1,645 is due March first. I have already received $350 from my grandparents for the initial deposit.
I am very excited to attend this program. I chose to attend the engineering program at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. I will have the opportunity to participate in leadership development workshops where I will develop many skills, such as public speaking and conflict resolution. I will also attend lectures and participate in workshops that will give me a better understanding of the engineering field and prepare me for college. I will attend briefings and participate in forum discussions led by National and World leaders in engineering.
Any donation you make will help me immensely. You can also share this link with others. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my story.
