Elaina's medical expenses
Meet Elaina who is 5 months. She is a bright, shiny, sweet, smiling little baby who unfortunately had gotten sick over the flu season. Elaina had been seen by an urgent care facility 3 times over a 4-week period being sent home each time with just "a bug" and she would "be okay."
During the last week of having this "bug," she became lethargic, wouldn't eat or drink and slept a lot. Monday, April 15th, she was taken in to an urgent care facility where they considered Elaina to be in distress. She was admitted to the emergency room at St. Francis Ascension Via Christi where the pediatric doctors determined Elaina to be in grave condition.
Within an hour, with a lifeless body, they air-vac'd her to the Kansas City Mercy Children's Hospital with a spleen that was 5x's it's normal size and white blood cell count of 300,000 with normal being 1500. After several blood and platelet transfusions and many tests, it was determined Elaina is suffering from a form of Leukemia called (ALL) Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Elaina's parents are full time college students and Emily works to support their family. With her needing to be by Elaina's side, she will be unable to work during the next 5 weeks to several months with Elaina needing chemotherapy as she fights for her life every minute.
During urgent times, we all come together to help those that desperately need it. This is one of those times. Please consider giving a helping hand for Elaina's family to help cover basic expenses in Kansas City during this difficult time.
