The Elder Care Project (Documentary & Podcast)

Donation protected
As people age, the cost of caregiving continues to increase, placing unexpected financial burden on families. The American Psychological Association shows that caregiving for elderly adults can place a major mental and physical toll on family caregivers, particularly for dementia and end-of-life (respite) care. Frequent physical and emotional exhaustion, neglected personal health, lost family and personal time, marital strife, work interruptions, and growing financial difficulties are some of the major stressors.

Following the success of his award-winning documentary and drawing from his 25-years experience as a public health expert, Dr. Gunness will now aim at producing a docu-series (including a podcast) addressing elder care and other public health issues affecting us today. He seeks to provide a clearer understanding of the many challenges caregivers (of different racial and socioeconomic background) face and explore the proven solutions to help them be more informed caregivers as well as those serving the community.

Dr. Gunness will partner with the award-winning filmmaker, Pierre Guillet, a writer, producer, and director on many shorts, commercials, and music videos. In 2023, his documentary, “The Book of Harth”, won best feature at several film festivals. Together, their hope is to revolutionize the way documentaries are done to be more informative and solution based.

Donation Request:
We are asking for your donation for the pre-production of the docu-series. The pre-production will help to plan, research, and scout for caregivers/professionals to be interviewed, conduct initial interviews via podcast, travel, filming, develop/edit a trailer (sizzle), apply for grants, and licensing fees.

Purpose of the Docu-series is to:
1. Assess the factors (such as barriers and solutions) of elder caregiving as experienced by caregivers, medical professionals, estate planning attorneys, financial experts, and community leaders from different socioeconomic communities;

2. Increase awareness of these factors via the caregiving community, universities, legal services, healthcare institutions, and government agencies;
