Elect Maisie McMaster in Galway West

Donation protected
With the announcement of our Galway West candidate, Maisie McMaster, we’ve now launched our Election Campaign Fund!

We are not funded by large donors, business or landlord interests, so we need all the support from ordinary people like you to make our campaign a success. Any amount you can contribute will help us print leaflets, print posters, pay for social media and newspaper advertisements and all the other costs associated with running a campaign.

"My name is Maisie McMaster, I'm 22 years old and currently studying a year long Art portfolio course in Galway. Over the past seven years I've been involved in youth activism and politics joining protests, pickets and continuing to engage myself politically. Earlier in 2024 | ran in the local elections for PBP in Galway City West. Although unelected I continue to put time into activism and now running in the General Elections for Galway West."

Housing
Housing is a basic human right that our government continuously fails to provide. We see record numbers of homelessness broken year on year while landlords and private investors are breaking records in profits. According to Galway Simon Community there are 641 homeless, including 232 children, across the west of Ireland. It is essential that we see strict rent controls along with a ban on no-fault evictions and the mass of vacant properties must be brought back into use to tackle the inhumane crisis in housing.

Transport, Environment, and Health
As shared in PBP Galway's Transport Vision, March 2023, Galway is the most congested city of its size. Reliance on private transport in a city with few routes is affecting all road users. Galway drivers spend an average of 73 hours a year in traffic, wasting time, fuel and money. Reliance on private transport significantly worsens the effectiveness of public transport. Buses delayed during rush hours due to traffic and during non-rush hours underfunding means widely unreliable services. Road usage fundamentally links to environmental and health concerns. Continued reliance on private transport means air pollution grows, fuel needed for this reliance degrades natural resources and byproducts of fuel usage directly impact human health (pollution increasing rates of asthma and lung cancers among many health consequences). We urgently need to invest in public transport and infrastructure such as safe cycle lanes to lessen the harmful consequences we are experiencing.
