Elementary School Kids in Need

Hi, my name is Heather and I am a School Psychologist in San Marcos, CA. Through my work at a local elementary school, I am aware of many kids in need that are not anticipating the most joyous holiday season. Whether it be the loss of a loved one, adverse challenges, an absentee parent, or other hardships, many kids could benefit from extending a little extra love, compassion, and joy this time of year. If you have anything to spare, this will go towards making their holiday extra special.

Who I'm Helping:

1. The first focus family has been through such a difficult year and needs our help. Here is a bit of their story: In January of this year, the grandmother died. The grandmother was the caregiver for an adult daughter with Down Syndrome. When the grandmother died, her other adult daughter and family took her in. However, it is important to note that the father is a quadriplegic, and so the mother is now the caregiver for her two kids, her husband, and her adult sister. They rely on her and her sole income to support the family. They reside in Escondido in an apartment, but the apartment complex has sold so they must move by March 2023. They currently have a van that can transport the father, but it is in need of repairs. Without this vehicle, he is unable to attend school functions and other important family outings. This family has been through so much, and with all of these circumstances, Christmas gifts were not an option. Together we have been able to fundraise money for Christmas gifts, but they still need so much more support to get them on a better path. My goal is to continue helping this family (fixing the van is the priority), and then move on to another focus family. It all depends on how much we can raise!

Important Note: As educators, we strive to be inclusive. If a need is expressed regarding Christmas gifts, donations will go towards Christmas and may reference Santa. In the event a family has other beliefs or preferences, donations will be made to families in accordance with their beliefs. We are simply here in the spirit of generosity and helping our community spread joy.

Here's How It Works: Funds will be used to purchase gifts for kids in need. A personal gift (aiming for gifts around $75) will be purchased, wrapped, and made available for pickup. For families that celebrate Christmas and enjoy Santa, families will have the option of coordinating a time to pick up the gift from Santa's mailbox. The child will be invited to pick up the gift at a pre-arranged time and location and will be blown away that Santa actually delivered! Please help keep the magic of giving alive for kids in need. Wow, together we have surpassed our fundraising goal! We have helped our focus family and we have supported 10 additional kids so far. Thank you all for supporting such an amazing cause! Donations have been turned off so that I can focus on distributing gifts before Christmas. Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
