Elena Leask Memorial Service

Hi Everyone,

My name is Tiana, Elena's granddaughter. Mama was and still is the most special person in my entire life. She was the most warmhearted and giving woman whom I have ever met. Anyone who has had the pleasure of meeting her knows how quick it was to love her. Mama’s heart was so precious and full of pure love. Everyone she came in contact with would view her as a mom or grandmother figure, the way she would make sure our mouths were always fed, even if we weren't hungry. She would always show her acts of selflessness and support by giving family, friends, and neighbors money or shelter in times of need; never expecting anything in return. Although mama was still so healthy and young she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer early last year. Those who knew her, knew she has never smoked a day in her life. She was always taking great care of herself and told me it was because she wanted to live to 100 years old.

She said she didn’t get to do everything she wanted to do yet and wasn’t ready to go. When I asked her if she could go anywhere in the world where would it be, she said Paris. So with that, I promised her we would go after she was strong enough to fight this battle. She didn’t know she had it in her to beat the cancer but we did, so she fought for us and she fought for her friends and the rest of her family. That’s who she was, a strong and resilient fighter.

9 months had passed by and progress was hardly there, her mind and faith were strong but her body couldn’t keep up. Unfortunately, everything started to go downhill and we only had a few days left to enjoy our special moments with her. She was unable to speak much or open her eyes but she was very much still present listening to those who visited her and squeezed our hands when we held hers. Mama still fought and held on as long as she could to be there for us all, again.
