Since 1973, The Bookshelf has been Guelph’s cultural cornerstone. An independent bookstore, cinema, resto-bar and meeting place, it is vital to Guelph’s creative and community spirit. However, many people are excluded: People with disabilities and many seniors cannot climb the stairs or access all the facilities.
We want to enable everyone to participate in our cultural community. Building an elevator, accessible washrooms and wheelchair access to the Bookshelf Cinema, Greenroom and eBar will invite our entire community to participate.
The Government of Canada has recognized this need with a generous $100,000 grant from its Enabling Accessibility Fund. The Bookshelf is investing $120,000. That leaves the community to raise the additional $100,000 needed for this $320,000 infrastructure project.
Through a generous gift of $50,000 from community members, Kim and Stu Lang, we are already 50% to our goal of $100,000.
Your investment will elevate our entire community, allowing everyone to enjoy book readings, films, concerts, Truth and Reconciliation gatherings with Indigenous communities, LGBTQ+ events, lectures, dances, discussions and more.
Let’s elevate Guelph.
