Elfie Knecht Oral Cancer Treatment

Hello everyone. It’s me, Elfie, writing an email I never wanted to or thought I would need to. I am raising funds for my oral tongue cancer treatment. In March, 2020 I was diagnosed with oral cancer. Squamous cell carcinoma. Tongue cancer. No surgeries were being performed during the height of Covid. Finally, in November 2020, I had a partial glossectomy, removing a significant portion of my tongue. This affected my speech and ability to eat and swallow. My tongue never healed and the cancer returned in 2021.

In 2022, after visits to four world-renowned ENT surgeons at Manhattan’s top hospitals, the only solution offered was another partial glossectomy, or perhaps total removal of my tongue and lymph nodes. This news is not palatable to me at any age, much less in my 50s. This does not represent quality of life to me.

In early 2022, searching for other viable solutions, I researched and consulted with a West Coast oncologist and integrative medicine surgeon who employs both conventional and alternative methods to address cancer on a cellular level. Unfortunately, anytime the word alternative is used in the medical world, it means insurance does not cover it. The option I chose is ALTERNATIVE. It makes scientific sense to me. It gives me the best chance to rid my body of the cancer and heal my tongue so I can continue to speak verbosely, eat with gusto and swallow without pain.

To this end, I have been in chemo treatment with other modalities employed during the past two months, June & July, 2022 with this oncologist. My supportive and loving spouse is here with me. At this point, the treatments I have received and participated in total $107,000.

I return home at the start of August, 2022 to continue my healing and monitor my progress via PET scans, bloodwork, nutraceuticals, supplementation and regular consults with my oncologist. I will update you, as able.

My ask is $75,000 for the treatment received. My wife and I are not going to let money stand in the way of saving my life, yet it is an additional stressor.
