Elijah Allen Moes Medical Relief

Donation protected

Hi,
My name is Gregory Paul Moes. I am a 29-year old father of one. Around April,  Raena (My wife) told me that she was pregnant. Elijah Allen Moes would eventually be named by his one year old older brother Emerson Thomas Moes. I was overjoyed at the news that my family would be growing. So, Raena began the process of regular doctor's visits while the neighbors or I watched Emerson, and sometimes Emerson would accompany Mom and "help" the doctor check on his baby brother. It was not much after that, around July, my company made me an offer of a promotion. Although this promotion involved a rather quick and extensive move across state lines, Raena and I agreed that the promotion would be beneficial to our family and decided that our family should go ahead and take the offer.   In between doctor's visits and work, Raena and I managed to get the house packed up. In all honesty, I was so busy working that Raena did about 93% of the packing. Before anything was ready (you know how life flies by sometimes) it was time for our young family to move. After three weeks in a hotel and one night in the emergency room, Raena and I finally managed to enter a lease and get a moving truck to load our belongings into. Yet again, I was working 6 day weeks to deal with the pace of business, so Raena (while pregnant) organized a group of our friends to load up the moving truck and she then drove the truck 6 hours to our new home. Unloading required the hired help of some professional movers but it was finally accomplished. With the move complete and behind us Raena began looking for a new doctor. Starting with the recommendations of the Labor and Delivery Triage nurses Raena set up an appointment with a local doctor. My young family then began to unpack and settle into our new home, so we could move on to preparing for soon to be Elijah. It was the middle of August at this point and Elijah was expected on November 19th which gave Raena and I only about 3 months to prepare for our second child. We set to with a will organizing baby clothes, making a list of neccesities, and taking inventory of left over bottles.  Before you know it, work and life have sped us by to the middle of October and Raena goes home to Tallahassee to house sit for a friend. Raena has a pregnancy scare and rushes to the ER to have the baby checked and she is sent home with instructions to rest and relax for the last few weeks of this pregnancy. However, Raena's previous doctor heard about the trip and as a miraculous gesture offered to examine Raena and Elijah at his office the next day.
On October the 18th of 2016 I received the only disturbing news of this pregnancy. That Elijah was measuring more than 3 weeks behind and that his development was not quite right. Raena was referred to a specialist who managed to get her into an appointment on October 20th. It was then that we were told that Elijah was not only behind in growth but that he also has a congenital heart defect, possibly edematous legs and feet, and possible micrognathia.

I have spent the past two days wondering what it would be like to be a parent that has to bury a child and today the first part of the amniocentesis panel informed us that Elijah did not have an unseen terminal defect. Meaning that he will live. We are currently waiting on the remainder of the  panel determine the extent of his condition. We should know in the next few days at which point I will post an update.

The delivery now has to be done by planned cesarean section and depending on the test results will probably happen the week of November the 6th at Shands in Gainesville, FL. The CDC reports the direct costs ranging from $22,000 towards $1,370,000.

The money will be used for medical needs for Elijah and costs associated with an extended hospital stay. Also, gas for transportation to and from the hospital. Possibly, food and lodging for myself and Emerson. And other costs that I'm sure I have no clue to predict. Money will more than likely be needed as soon as November 6th, 2016.

Please help in any way you can. Money is not our only need at this point. Raena and I have had no knowledge until this week that our family would be blessed with a special needs child and have no clue how our life is going to be changed. Time constraints make this situation even more difficult as the entire time up until the procedure I will be at work in Montgomery, AL and Raena will be back and forth between Tallahassee and Gainesville for additional testing.

Please pray for my family during this difficult time. The smiles that Elijah promises to bring to the world and the people that he will impact thank you for all and any generosity that you show.
