Elijah McClain Memorial
Tax deductible
I am auctioning a weaving I made in memorial to Elijah McClain to support Hungry for Music, a non-profit that provides kids with musical instruments they might not otherwise be able to enjoy. (Each $10 = 1 entry)
I didn't know Elijah, but he was murdered 30 minutes from where I live and I never even knew about it until recently. I didn't know him, but hearing his last words will forever change the way I see things in this country. He must have been so afraid and in so much pain but still maintained his gentle kindness in the face of brutality. To me, Black Lives don't just matter, they should be revered. They embody the indomitable spirit we claim to hold so dear in this country.
I would like to see more monuments to people like Elijah -- the healers -- the kind of people who make time to go play music for abandoned animals out of the goodness of their heart.
