The exciting moment has come! On October 31st, Eli will be traveling to San Francisco to receive the gender-affirming surgery they deserve <3
(Yes, that's right - on Halloween, which is perfect, since they love a good theme...)
As you probably already know, this is something Eli has been thinking about for a long time, and feels the support and acceptance from folks near and far allowing them to take that next step in gender affirming surgery and care.
If you're reading and seeing this: you have already been a part of affirming this journey!! The amount of love and care is seen and felt by Eli <3
The nitty gritty:
Given that we're still living in the societal constraints of capitalism and the medical-industrial complex - this shit costs money. Insurance is coming through for the bulk of it, yet there are many more expenses that will make this feel easeful and more accessible for Eli:
- $2k for the part of surgery that insurance does not cover
- $2k for lodging in SF, as Eli will have to be there for an entire week for pre and post opp appts and recovery (*the flights will already be covered through miles and companion fares!)
- $1k for additional required medical supplies, ubers to/fro appointments etc, and misc expenses that sneak up during that week (compression binder! gauze! scar care! a coffee for their caretaker!)

Eli also wants to emphasize and recognize that it is a privilege to travel down to SF for a particular surgeon and that this does incur an extra cost, AND also this is a once in a lifetime event and they deserve to elect the best care to meet their needs. It means so much to them to be able to go to the surgeon they trust, and to be able to exist in a supportive and affirming community that helps to make an ask like this possible.
In a world that is being bombarded with hateful policy that is attempting to prevent people from living and being their fullest, truest self, let's come together to help our friend experience the affirmation, authenticity, and abundance of care that they -- and every trans person -- deserves.
