Our friend, Elise Talbot was recently diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer. We are trying to raise money to help cover her healthcare costs.
A little backstory:
Elise has been to several different specialists over the past 7 months complaining of left side pain and other “stomach-related issues”. She was seeing a GI specialist who advised her that it was Irritable Bowel Syndrome and to take probiotics and fiber. She followed his instructions but still had pain. She returned to the doctor with the same complaints & he again told her that it was IBS. When she asked if she should have any imaging or a colonoscopy, he said, “There is no reason.”
Eventually, Elise ended up in Urgent Care where a CT was performed. They found diverticulitis & sent home with antibiotics and strongly advised to find a new GI specialist.
In early April, Elise met with the new specialist who immediately recommended a colonoscopy. Her Procedure was performed on April 23, 2021. When she woke up, she was advised that she had a cancerous tumor blocking her sigmoid colon. She was immediately wheeled to the colorectal surgeon and had surgery to remove the mass & a bowel resection on April 26th.
When the pathology report came back, we were all shocked to learn that what she was told was IBS, was in fact, Stage III colon cancer. She is going to require six months of chemotherapy once healed from surgery.
Elise has a great support system. Meals, rides, and almost everything else she needs will be taken care of. However, even with medical bills, her out-of-pocket expenses will be around $10k right now (excluding the possibility of future hospitalizations or bills currently unaccounted for). At this time, we are unsure of how long this will affect her ability to work; healing comes first, but being without work means being without a steady income to pay for treatments. Money raised will ONLY be used for these purposes. No donation is too small, and your prayers and well-wishes are very much appreciated.
Thank you for helping Elise kick cancer's ass!
