Elisha and Jason Benner ‘s Emergency Fund

Illness is a familiar companion to Elisha Benner, who has battled cystic fibrosis since birth. After years of chronic illness, she underwent a life-saving double lung transplant over a decade ago. In the ensuing years, Elisha not only survived but thrived, finding love, embarking on adventures, and dedicating herself to supporting others facing adversity. However, in December 2023, Elisha's health took a severe turn when she contracted influenza, leaving her profoundly ill. After enduring nearly a month of sickness, she was admitted to Buffalo General Hospital. Despite medical intervention, her condition worsened, necessitating transfer to the ICU where she spent seven days on a ventilator in a medically induced coma.

On February 6th, Elisha finally received the transfer she had been awaiting to New York Presbyterian Hospital via Mercy Flight. This renowned transplant center holds special significance for Elisha, as it was where she received her life-changing transplant a decade prior. Currently, she continues to receive treatment for influenza and an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection. Though there has been progress, her journey to recovery has only just begun.

The urgency of Elisha's condition has required her husband, Jason, to be by her side constantly, necessitating a leave of absence from his new job. Elisha, unable to work due to the prolonged illness, faces an uncertain financial future. With no other source of income, the couple finds themselves burdened with mounting expenses, particularly with Jason needing to stay in New York City to support Elisha.
