My Surgery Journey
How this all started was I had an ear infection for months and they could not get the swelling to go down. Finally when the right medicine worked, they found a mass in my ear canal.
The start of 2020 I had my first surgery at Vanderbilt with the head of the oral surgery department. To make an extremely long story shorter, after this surgery to try to repair the hole did not work. 3 months later I had another surgery in which they attempted to repair the hole again with titanium mesh. When they were in there they realized the bone had started to deteriorate, and said there was not many places to attach the mesh down. He stated that he believed this would not work. So I came back again 3 months later for them to attempt something else. In this surgery they resected part of my jawbone to make it so it would be below the hole. Unfortunately this is where it all went wrong. Not only did it not work I was left with inside of my face shorter than the other and I could not open my mouth more than 1/2 inch.
When I went back for a follow up the surgeon stated that my teeth on that side were extremely lose and I need to see a periodontist to figure out what was going on. At that doctor appt which was in Knoxville I found out that that last surgery caused this to happen and I would need another surgery to fix this. By the grace of God I had found the right doctor who had done her fellowship under this surgeon whose specialty was this type of birth defect. (I found that out from the periodontist). I went a whole year with a special bite plate that keep my teeth apart so they could tighten back up.
I finally met with this surgeon in Bowie Maryland. The only way to fix the past surgery mistakes and actually correct the problem is for my to have a prosthetic made to replace my whole jaw bone. This is an 8-10 hour surgery in which they must also fix my sinus cavity from the jaw pushing it back.
I found out that my doctor is out of network which my insurance will only pay 80% of. My surgeon’s cost is $79,500 dollars. I have to be there a week after surgery for follows ups.
Though I know this is what I need to have done. It has put stress on my family having to travel so much.
I did try to sue. I talked to 3 different lawyers and all told me although I have a case it would be almost impossible.
Your donation is very much appreciated. It will be used for what is left after insurance, helping my family pay bills while I can not work and travel fees.
If you can not donate prayers are very much needed.
