As some of you may know, this Christmas holiday was incredibly difficult for our family. My little sister, Elizabeth, became light headed and fainted while walking down the stairs. Unable to use her arms to break her fall, she face planted onto the hard floor. We found Elizabeth laying at the bottom of the stairs unconscious, with blood pouring from her mouth.
The next few hours are a blur. She was taken by ambulance to the local ER to have the inside of her mouth, lip, and chin stitched up. A little after midnight she was transferred to a larger hospital to remove the front upper teeth that had been smashed back by the impact of the fall. We were originally told that after her teeth were pulled she would be released to come home, but around 2:30 in the morning her doctor informed us that Elizabeth's jaw was fractured and she would be admitted to the hospital. On Christmas morning the doctors let us know that they would need to wire Elizabeth's jaw shut for the next 6-8 weeks. During this time she will have to eat and drink with a syringe. Her doctor believes that once the wires are removed, they will need to do a bone graft utilizing bone from her hip to repair her damaged upper jaw before they can start exploring options to replace her missing teeth.
She has a long road of recovery and thousands of dollars of medical bills in her near future. Elizabeth's incredible ability to remain positive and keep her sense of humor through this ordeal has been such an inspiration to me and rest of her family. Please aid me in assisting Elizabeth in this long road to recovery. We appreciate all donations.
Please keep Elizabeth in your thoughts and share this post.
