Breast Cancer Survivor Gets 2nd Breast Cancer

Hi, my name is Michelle Cavanagh and I’m the sister of Elizabeth Cavanagh Conte. Along with our other sister, Bridget Gonsalves, brother, John Cavanagh, and friends Michele Paliotta, Sarah Waters-Bates and Nicole Zabbo we are asking for your help in support of Liz.

It is a difficult but very courageous thing to ask for help!

 

Liz, or ZeeZee to her family, has been recently diagnosed with Advanced Breast Cancer for the second time.

 

Liz is a Mom to two beautiful boys named Nic and Max. The boys have already endured the trauma of their Mom going through her first breast cancer while also currently experiencing an acrimonious divorce.

 

Liz has tirelessly dedicated her professional life to abused and at risk children through her roles at St. Mary’s Home for Children and currently as a Social Caseworker for DCYF. She has helped treat hundreds of children over the past 3 decades including when she was a Foster Parent.

 

Liz is a graduate of both St. Mary’s Academy-Bay View and Providence College. She grew up in Smithfield and went to St. Philip’s Church & School. She currently resides in Cranston. Her boys are very active within CWLL and CLCF especially in baseball and basketball.

 

After decades helping other people’s children, she and her own school aged children need our help now.

 

Liz will be undergoing surgery in the next few weeks, followed by intensive chemotherapy treatment and then radiation. Because this breast cancer is a reoccurrence her treatments will be aggressive. She will be unable to work during this time while incurring many medical bills. She has worked for the State of RI for only two years and because of that she has very little paid leave time that has been accrued for discharge. She has already had to use many days of accrued time for physician appointments and testing to get her diagnosis. State of RI employees are not eligible for TDI/temporary disability insurance.

 

All money that is donated will help Liz pay her medical bills and support her boys during the lengthy treatment.
