Thank you so much for your time and interest in learning more about The Elizabeth Edwards Grant for hope. A little bit about Elizabeth, she is a daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. Her heart is pure gold and her faith in God is strong. Through these admirable characteristics she served her country by enlisting in the army, followed by serving her community by becoming a nurse. Through her 77 years she has always made it a point to help those in her community that struggle. We now get to honor a woman that has done so much for others and who will now be able to continue to help those in need while she struggles with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Our goal through the grant is to help provide needed items for those in the community who cannot afford to take care of their loved ones with Alzheimer’s or Dementia. Costs for items such as depends, bed pads, ensure, and paid sitters can cost on the low end, $1400 a month and the price increases from there depending on the patient’s needs. My heart broke when hearing a wife breakdown because she could not afford the basic items needed for her husband’s care, care that would ensure his last days were comfortable.
I am asking you to please help those suffering from Alzheimer’s understand, that even though they will forget, we will not forget them. That as a community we support those families who are caring for and watching their loved one be stolen by this unstoppable disease.
With your help, along with the help of Alzheimer’s Tennessee, and The Elizabeth Edwards Grant for Hope I know we can replace the tears of a hopeless caretaker with the hopeful smile that they are not alone, that as a community we will not let their loved pass away desperate for help.
Thank you again, Mary Edwards-Olson
